Vesna Bosanac
Vesna Bosanac was born in 1949 in Subotica, in Vojvodina, to a family that comes from Eastern Slavonia. After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb in 1973, she returned to Vukovar and started working at the Vukovar hospital, where she is still employed today. At the beginning of the war in Croatia she took over the directorship of the Vukovar hospital: during the worst period of destruction in the town she managed the hospital and organised care for the wounded. At the time of the fall of Vukovar, she was arrested by the Yugoslav National Army and taken to prison. She spent most of her three-week long captivity in Srijemska Mitrovica before being exchanged. Following her return to Croatia she became actively involved in the search for missing persons. She return to live in Vukovar in 1997 and she once again assumed the directorship of the hospital. She testified at the Hague Court, in various war crimes trials, including those of Veselin Šljivančanin, Vojislav Šešelj and Goran Hadžić. Vesna Bosanac has passed on March 21st, 2022 in Vukovar.
