Veljko Vičević

Veljko Vičević was born in 1956 in Zagreb. For some time during Yugoslavia he was a youth functionary and he got to know the political structures of the time. In 1986, following conflict with some of the political functionaries, he left politics. He was involved in alternative media movements in the 1980s. At the beginning of the war in Croatia, through Territorial Defence, he joined the Croatian Army. He has been on many battlefields in Croatia. Amongst other, he participated in Operation Storm and he escorted the refugee column of Serbs who fled following Storm. He remained an active member of the military until 2005, when he was retired and given an invalidity pension. Today he lives in Zagreb with his family and he is active in the Croatian Disabled Homeland War Veterans Association of the City of Zagreb as well as being a member of the association's Court of Honour. He also participates in the activities organised by various human rights organisations.
