Vedran Benić

Vedran Benić, a well-known journalist and a long-time correspondent for HTV [Croatian Television] from Dubrovnik, was born in 1951 in Dubrovnik. His father was left-wing and he participated in the Partisan movement, but after the Second World War he fell into disfavour and he spent six months in prison. After graduating from the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb, Vedran Benić returned to Dubrovnik and started working as a journalist. During the period of Yugoslavia he was active in the 'Laus', a group of young intellectuals in Dubrovnik who published a magazine and openly opposed the regime. He spent the war and the siege of Dubrovnik working as a journalist in the town. He is the author of various works and documentary films. Today he lives and works in Dubrovnik.
