Sovjetka Režić was born in 1946 in Metković. During the Second World War her father was the organiser of an uprising in the area of Lower Neretva and her mother was also a member of the resistance movement. Sovjetka Režić's father died before she was born; she was adopted by her mother's second husband. At the beginning of the war in the 1990s she was a judge at the County Court in Split. She witnessed the purging of the judiciary that was done in those years and found that her own position at the court was endangered. In her private life she experienced threats due to her disagreement with the dominant politics of the time. In 2005 she was a candidate for President of the County Court in Split. Just before the decision was to be made, members of the Council of Judges were informed of the charges that had been laid by an anonymous person against Sovjetka Režić, for abuse of position and power. In 2007 the State Attorney municipal office in Split, following an investigation, cleared her of all suspicion of abuse of position and power. Until her retirement she worked at the County Court in Split as an appeals judge dealing with civil cases. After the retirement she engaged more in human rights organizations by writing on war crime trials and monitoring of court proceedings. She passed away in Split in January 2019.
