Sonja Leka

Sonja Leka was born in Karlovac in 1965. Her family suffered grave losses in the Second World War. She spent her childhood and youth in Karlovac. At the beginning of the war, she found herself in Ličko Petrovo Selo, in a family weekend house, and because of the road blocks she could not return to Karlovac. She spent the whole period of the war on the territory of SAO Krajina [Serbian Autonomous Oblast of Krajina], in Ličko Petrovo Selo. After Operation Storm she took refuge in Belgrade, together with her father. She stayed there for five years. In 2000 she decided to return to Lika. Today she lives in Ličko Petrovo Selo and is the head of the ‘Tara’ association, which deals with preserving traditional crafts.
