Slaven Tolj

Slaven Tolj was born in 1964 in Dubrovnik. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo. At the end of the 1980s he was involved in organising and conducting alternative forms of resistance to the cultural establishment. During the siege of Dubrovnik he shared the destiny of the rest of the population and he participated in the defence of the town. In his artistic work he often deals with experiences from the war. From 1988, when it was established, and for a number of years, he lead the ART workshop Lazareti in Dubrovnik. Today he lives and works between Dubrovnik and Rijeka. He is the Director of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rijeka.
