Miro Tomić
Miro Tomić was born in 1969 in central Bosnia, in the Municipality of Kakanj. During the Croat-Muslim conflict in June 1993, over the course of twelve days some 12 000 Croats were forced the leave their homes and several villages were occupied by the Muslim forces who issued an ultimatum to the Croatian forces: that they would allow civilians to leave the villages if the members of the Croatian forces surrendered. Miro Tomić was then captured as a member of the HVO [Croatian Defence Council]. He spent the first ten days of his detention in a local primary school, and was then transferred to a prison where he remained until June 1994. Following that, he managed to reach Herzegovina via Kiseljak, and then Croatia. He was a refugee until August 1995 when, after Operation Storm, along with some other Croats from Bosnia, he was settled in the area of Donji Lapac, a locality that had previously been abandoned by the Serbs.
