Miljkan Gvoić

Miljkan Gvoić was born in 1929 in Dugo Selo Lasinjsko, a village with a majority Orthodox population. His father spent the Second World War in detention in Germany, whilst his mother, grandmother, brother and two sisters were killed by the Ustaše and buried in a joint grave. Miljkan and his brother managed to avoid the massacre and fled. Miljkan Gvoić spent some time on the Petrova Gora mountain with the Partisans as a child. After the Second World War, only ruins and charred remnants were left of his home. At the beginning of the war in the 1990s he was in Dugo Selo Lasinjsko, which became part of SAO Krajina. Following Operation Storm, together with the rest of the population, he joined the refugee column heading towards Serbia. In 1997 he came back to Croatia, together with his wife, and has since been living in Dugo Selo Lasinjsko as a pensioner.
