Miljenko Turniški

Miljenko Turniški was born in 1961 in Subotica, in Vojvodina. He comes from a family which, as a result of the historical turmoils in the region, saw the mixing of various nationalities as well as its members joining the various armies that fought wars in this area. A part of his family joined the Partisan Movement, whilst other family members joined the Croatian Home Guard and the Ustaše forces. At the age of eight, Miljenko Turniški moved to Osijek with his family, where he spent his youth. After studying political science in Zagreb, he returned to Osijek where he lives to this day. During the war in the 1990s, he joined the Croatian Army and he took part in several major military actions. Since 1995 he has been active in the Local Democracy Agency association which seeks to encourage local democracy and respect for human rights, as well as sustainable development and local economic development.
