Metodije Prkačin

Metodije Prkačin was born in 1947 on the Pelješac peninsula. His family comes from Herzegovina: in 1905 they moved to Pelješac and were engaged in livestock breeding. After completing his schooling he spent some time working on oil pipelines in the North Sea, the Persian Gulf and on Borneo. Later he permanently moved to Cavtat and was employed maintaining electrics in a hotel. At the beginning of the war in the 1990s, he joined the Cavtat volunteer unit along with one of his sons and helped organise the defence of Cavtat. On October 16, 1991, he and his son were captured and taken to the Morinj camp. In the camp he suffered and witnessed numerous abuses. He was exchanged on December 12, 1991 and he returned to Cavtat which was still under occupation. He and his family went to stay in Dubrovnik, but he continued to participate in Croatian Army military actions. On May 22, 1992, during the Yugoslav National Army retreat, his mother was killed at her house: it was hit by a shell. He is a member of the Dubrovnik Association of Camp Detainees which has sought criminal charges against war crimes suspects. In the context of those proceedings Metodije Prkačin testified at the court in Podgorica. Today he is retired and lives in Cavtat.
