Lukša Peko
Lukša Peko is an artist and painter, born in 1941 in Dubrovnik. His father was a prominent member of HSS [Croatian Peasant Party], but the Partisans shot and killed him in 1944 on the island of Daksa, after accusing him of being a member of the Ustaše movement. After the communists took power, he witnessed the poverty that struck the Dubrovnik Region. During the siege of Dubrovnik he stayed in the town and he shared the tragedy brought upon it with the rest of its inhabitants. The first victim of the shelling of Dubrovnik was his best friend, a Dubrovnik poet of Orthodox religion, Milan Milišić.
