Luko Piplica
Luko Piplica was born in 1970 in Dubrovnik. His family comes from Cavtat where he has also spent his whole life. Until the war, his family worked in tourism in Cavtat. In 1990, just before the war, he was carrying out his compulsory military service in the JNA [Yugoslav National Army] in Vojvodina. When trouble started in the area of Cavtat and Konavle, Luko Piplica received a call to join the reserve police forces and he spent the period until the escalation of war at the border with Montenegro, performing border control checks. On October 15, 1991 he was captured by the JNA and taken to the Morinj camp in Montenegro. In Morinj, he witnessed psychological and physical abuse of prisoners and he himself was abused. He was released from Morinj in an exchange which took place on December 12, 1991. At the time, Cavtat was under the occupation of the JNA which lasted until October 18, 1992. After graduating from university he continued to live in Cavtat, where he lives to this day. He works in tourism.
