Ladislav Bognar
Ladislav Bognar was born in 1942 in Slavonski Brod. He comes from a Partisan family. Until the war in the 1990s he was a prominent pedagogue, and as a university professor he was one of the founders of the pedagogy course at the University of Osijek. At the beginning of the war he joined the organisation for the defence of Osijek. During the war he was the commander of the defence of Slatina, and later the deputy commander of the Osijek Operational Zone for information and psychological activities. He was noted for his negotiating skills. After the war he was involved with peace education and teaching relating to non-violence and human rights. In the period from 2001 to 2003 he was the head of Osijek-Baranja County. In 2012 he received the "Ivan Filipović" award for life achievement.
