Hrvoje Klasić
Hrvoje Klasić was born in 1972 in Sisak, into a family that respected the values proclaimed by the SFRJ [Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia]. He enjoyed a happy childhood in Sisak. At the beginning of the war, whilst a high school student, he joined HDZ [the Croatian Democratic Union]. At the Crisis Staff in Sisak he made contact with many influential people in Sisak at the time, as well as with groups of newcomers who were active in setting up the defence of Sisak and who were involved in other war happenings in the town. When he went to study history in Zagreb, his involvement in HDZ activism abated. He spent the war years between Sisak and Zagreb. After the war, as a graduated professor of history, he got a job teaching history at a school in Sisak. At the end of the 1990s he joined SDP [Social Democratic Party]. In 1999 he became the President of SDP Youth in Croatia, and later a member of the Sisak City Council. He is no longer a member of any party. He teaches at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb, in the Department of Modern World History.
