Duško Kostić

Duško Kostić was born in 1974 in Kneževo, in Baranja, to a Roma family. Even as a child he was aware of discrimination towards the Roma people and he felt a need to rise above the limitations imposed on Roma people. He finished both primary and high school and later in life graduated from a teacher training faculty. He spent the period of war in the area of SAO Krajina. Very soon after the start of the peaceful reintegration he got in touch with non-governmental organisations which had programmes that could help the Roma population. He participated in and lead a number of peace programs aimed at the reconstruction of relations amongst those on opposite sides in the recent war. In 2001 he participated in the establishment of the Baranja civil centre, and is now a leader of the Luna Association of Roma friendship in Beli Manastir, whose aim is to improve the life of the Roma community.
