Drago Hedl
Drago Hedl was born in 1950 in Osijek. His father's family is of German origin; they came to Slavonia in the 18th century. Some members of the family were killed during the Second World War whilst in the German Army, which marked the family during the period of Yugoslavia. Drago Hedl has been involved in journalism for 35 years. At the beginning of the war in Croatia he was the Chief Editor of Glas Slavonije and as such he very quickly started getting into conflict with the then-political structures in Osijek, in particular with Branimir Glavaš. After he was forced to resign from his post as the editor of Glas Slavonije, he started working at Slobodna Dalmacija. There, he made contact with the founders of Feral Tribune, which he subsequently joined when they founded the weekly magazine. As a journalist, he is best known for systematically investigating war crimes and informing the public about his findings. Some of the war crimes committed were subsequently successfully prosecuted thanks to his efforts. Because of his journalistic work his life was threatened on a number of occasions, and he was given police protection. He is the collaborated on several documentary films which dealt with war crimes. For the past four years he has been working at Jutarnji List as a journalist and reporter.
