Darko Smolić-Ročak
Darko Smolić Ročak was born in 1961 in Sukošan, near to Zadar. Members of his family fought on opposite sides during the Second World War: some were members of the Croatian Home Guard whilst others joined the Partisans. During Yugoslavia, national and religious identity was cherished in his family. He participated in the war in the 1990s as a member of the reserve forces of the Croatian Ministry of Interior, and later of the Croatian Army. He took part in the battles in the Zadar hinterland, and in Operations Maslenica and Storm. He was wounded near to Bili Brig in the Zadar hinterland. He was active in the Croatian military until 2003, when he retired from service. Today he lives in Sukošan and is the Deputy Mayor of Sukošan Municipality.
