Bruno Čavić
Bruno Čavić was born in 1956 in Zagreb, in a family with a very complex history. Just after the war, some family members were victims of the communist authorities. For many years following the War, the family was shunned. During the time of Yugoslavia, Bruno Čavić himself was marked by his family history: under suspicion of being involved in enemy activity against Yugoslavia, he was continuously under surveillance by the authorities. Having graduated from the School for Reserve Officers in the JNA [Yugoslav National Army], at the beginning of the war he joined the defence of Croatia. He fought on many battlefields as a commander, including in the area of Bosanska Posavina. By the end of the war he held the rank of colonel. In 2003 he was retired. He got involved with the work of the Association of Volunteers and Veterans of the Homeland War. Under the auspices of the association, he gives lectures to primary and high school students about the Homeland War. He attended lectures at and collaborated with the Centre for Peace Studies and the MIRamiDA Centre. He believes that with these experiences have deepened his understanding of war in a broader social context.
