Ante Prkačin

Ante Prkačin was born in 1953 in Slavonski Brod in a family that comes from eastern Herzegovina. At the end of the War, a large part of the family found themselves in Bleiburg and they were subsequently killed by the Yugoslav authorities. Ante Prkačin's father was a member of an Ustaše unit. In the period following the War, because of the problems that he had resulting from his Ustaše membership, he spent some time in hiding and he moved from Herzegovina to Slavonia. At the time of the break-up of Yugoslavia and the proclamation of Croatian independence, Ante Prkačin became very involved in political life and he was active in strengthening Croatia's military capability. He joined the then newly formed HOS [Croatian Council of defence] units, and in 1991 he also joined HSP [Croatian Party of Rights]. He was a representative in the Croatian Parliament for two terms. He actively participated in the war in Bosnia and earned the rank of major. After the war he was retired. In
1999 he founded a political party, Nova Hrvatska [New Croatia], and he was a candidate at the presidential elections in 2000. He returned to HSP in 2011. Today he lives in Slavonski Brod where he is a businessman.
