Ana Raffai
Ana Raffai was born in 1959 in Zagreb. Her family legacy was based on Catholic values. During the time of Yugoslavia her father, as a Croatian nationalist, spent a short time in prison. The events of the Croatian Spring in 1971 represented an important historical moment for her family. In 1985 she started working as a school teacher, teaching French and German. During the war in Croatia, from 1991 to 1993, she took refuge in Switzerland where she became involved with a peace movement. After returning to Croatia, together with her husband Otto Raffai, she continued her engagement with the peace movement and was one of the first to spread the idea of anti-war action and non-violence. Today, Ana and Otto Raffai run an association called RAND [Regional Address for Nonviolent Action] through which they educate and promote the values of nonviolent action combining spirituality, social engagement and study.
